For more than 10 years, the non-profit association Catalysti Ry has created exhibition opportunities for transcultural artists in Finland.

This year’s Annual Exhibition is an experiment—welcome to celebrate Catalysti’s inaugural Art Lottery event!

When? Saturday 2 December from 15-19
Address: Outo Olo Art Space, Vaasankatu 15.

Why a lottery?

The aim for this year’s Catalysti annual exhibition is to profile and uplift as many of the association’s 250 members as possible through exhibiting and documenting their works, while connecting them with like-minded peers in a warm and celebratory social environment. Through this, we also seek to experiment with rethinking and proposing alternative exhibition practices that can be actualised with limited resources.

Being an artist often means being in competition with your peers. Everyone is forced to apply and compete for open calls, residencies, grants, and exhibition opportunities. We didn’t want to reinforce this competitive spirit, so we’re testing if the lottery could be a different way to make an exhibition for a membership organisation. And in this way, all members have the opportunity to receive an artwork gift, while being recognised and celebrated by their peers.
